Who we are

Not a big box. On purpose.

Family, service, community and friendship are words rarely used to describe today’s “big box” retail outlets. Somewhere far away from here, it was decided that shopping for building materials meant wandering through an enormous warehouse with little to no direction: minimal help from the clerks, loading your own lumber, and no friendly, familiar faces. Our response to that is simple.

“That’s not the way we do business.”

  1. 1969Mack and Roy Ivey found Ivey Lumber Company in an old sawmill in Logansport.
  2. 1982A new store is built in Mansfield, and the family moves the business there.
  3. 2013Our Haughton store opens on US-80 to serve Bossier Parish.
  4. 2024Our Shreveport store opens on North Market Street.
  5. TodayThree stores, one team, still run on Mack’s way of doing business.

Where it started

Mack Ivey’s way of doing business

Mack and Roy Ivey founded Ivey Lumber Company in 1969 in an old sawmill in Logansport, LA. Mack, who ran the business, laid the groundwork for what would become a thriving enterprise. His philosophy was based on honesty, creating relationships, going the extra mile, and doing it all with his relaxing, sometimes humorous manner.

After several successful years in Logansport, a new location was built in Mansfield in 1982, and Mack and his family moved to the Mansfield area to keep growing the business. In 1988 Mack was diagnosed with cancer and passed away shortly after. He left a legacy of service, generosity and kindness that Ivey’s still works to uphold.

What began as a small sawmill in Logansport has grown into something much bigger. Today Ivey’s Building Materials is a trusted destination for homeowners and builders across DeSoto Parish, known for a unique product selection, competitive pricing, and a level of service that’s increasingly hard to find.

We proudly support contractors throughout Northwest Louisiana with dependable delivery and a commitment to adding value to every project. As we’ve grown we’ve expanded our reach, opening our Haughton store in 2013 and our Shreveport store in 2024.

More than fifty years in business has taught us many things, but one lesson stands above the rest: Mack had it right from the start. Build strong relationships, go the extra mile, and never forget to greet people with a smile.
